Kitchen and Cabinet Painting and Our Process
Painting the kitchen interior walls and cabinets are a great way to freshen up the look in your kitchen. Our process is a simple few steps and will make your kitchen look beautiful.
Step 1: Perform the Project
Metal, wood, and wood-laminate are typically easier to paint. It's important to sample the paint on an unnoticeable area of the cabinet to make sure the paint bonds well to the material.
Step 2: Hardware and Doors Removal
We remove the drawers and doors before we start painting. Also, we remove the latches, pulls, knobs, and other pieces of hardware.
Step 3: Clean the Surfaces
In the kitchen all kinds of splatter, grease, heat happen a lot. For that reason, we clean the surfaces of the doors and drawers prior to sanding and painting. We use a soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly.
Step 4: Sand the Surfaces
A light sanding the doors gets them ready for paint. Roughening the surfaces so the fresh paint will bond better.
Step 5: Applying Primer-Sealer
An even coat of primer to all surfaces to guarantee a properly bonded coat.
Step 6: Apply the Paint
We will use either an air less sprayer, mini roller, or paintbrush to apply the paint. A thin coat over the entire surface will show less brushstrokes and dry faster. Prior to every coat Pete & Ruby's Interior Painting LLC will lightly sand the surfaces to prep for the next coat. For most cabinets, two quality coats of paint is more than enough to offer a rich appearance.
